A REVIEW has been launched of transport in the North-East.

The study, by the North East Combined Authority’s overview and scrutiny committee, will investigate how available and access public transport is and any problems people face getting to and from work, school or college.

The final report will be published next March.

Before then, the committee wants to hear people’s views on the subject; particularly: whether they can travel at reasonable cost, in reasonable time, with reasonable ease; how easy it is to get to work using public transport; and whether alternative approaches might help people into jobs.

Councillor Norma Wright, chair of Neca’s overview and scrutiny committee, said: “We’re asking people to help us build a picture of what the transport needs are across our area and whether people are facing any barriers to employment.

“As well as looking at what current transport projects exist to help people get to work, job interviews and training, we are also looking at the potential impact of future spending cuts and the particular issues facing different areas, including rural communities.”

Comments will be taken between Tuesday, September 1 and Thursday, October 8. They should be as concise as possible.
