A SECTION of one of the region’s busiest roads will be closed overnight for two-weeks of resurfacing work.
Work is to take place on the A19 southbound carriageway between Easington and Wellfield in County Durham starting on Sunday, July 5.
The southbound carriageway will be closed overnight between 8pm and 6am, Monday to Sunday (no work will be carried out overnight on Sunday) to allow the work to be carried out safely and efficiently.
Highways England project manager, Kyle Maylard said: “We need to carry out this resurfacing work to make sure people’s journeys remain smooth, safe and reliable.
“We’ll be carrying out the work overnight, at a time when the fewest people are using the road and we thank drivers for their patience.”
During the overnight closures a signed diversion route will be in place via the A1086 through Horden and Blackhall and the A179 before re-joining the A19 at the A19/A179 Sheraton interchange.
Work is planned to be completed by Friday, July 19.
