A DRIVER who was banned for breaking the speed limit by 75mph was branded obscene'' by a safety campaigner today.

Semir Nezirovic, 20, from Holystone Crescent, Heaton, Newcastle, was banned from driving for 56 days and ordered to carry out 120 hours unpaid work by North Tyneside magistrates after he admitted speeding at 105mph in a temporary 30mph zone in February.

The limit was put in place while repairs were being carried out on the A1058 coast road.

A mobile camera caught his Renault Megane break the 100mph barrier on the busy road between Newcastle and the North Sea.

Ray King, of the Northumbria Safer Roads Initiative which runs the force's camera network, said: "Driving at 75mph over the limit is a dangerous and obscene speed and poses a real threat to life.

"It is unbelievable someone would drive in this manner and put other motorists at risk.

"This is one of the highest speeds in a 30mph zone I have heard and there is simply no excuse.''
