A SCHOOLGIRL is in a critical condition after being found hanging in a house.

Police officers were called to the Raby Road area of Hartlepool, following reports of a teenager with neck injuries.

The 14-year-old has not been named by police.

She was admitted to the University Hospital of North Tees, in Stockton before being transferred to James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough.

It is understood she is in a critical condition in the intensive care unit.

Police were apparently called to the house in Gray Street around 10am on Thursday.

A spokeswoman for Cleveland police said: "There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the incident and investigations are ongoing, with police working closely with the family."
