A CUSTOMER was charged with manslaughter after a betting shop manager collapsed and died, police said today.
Jeffrey Hilland, 52, was involved with an alleged struggle with a punter, and fell to the floor of the Pagebet shop in Pelton, near Chester-le-Street, Co Durham, in June.
The manager was taken to Durham's University Hospital and he died four days later in intensive care.
After the incident a 36-year-old from Chester-le-Street was arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent and was bailed pending further inquiries.
When he answered bail today, the man was charged with manslaughter.
He will appear before Consett Magistrates Court on August 26.
