Land and property bought by the wife of back-from-the-dead canoeist John Darwin has finally been sold to help recoup more than £500,000 defrauded from insurance and pension companies.

Anne Darwin has been stripped of all of her assets as the Crown Prosecution Service recovered the money the pair received as result of his faked death in March 2002.

Darwin assets recovered

The pair conned the world, including their own sons, with their audacious scam when Darwin staged his own drowning in a kayaking accident off Seaton Carew, near Hartlepool.

They were found guilty of the deception in 2008 after Darwin returned from the couple’s Panamanian hideaway and handed himself into a London police station claiming he was suffering from amnesia.

Following their conviction, the Crown Prosecution Service was granted a confiscation order to recover their assets, which included a fourth floor apartment in a leafy sub-Land and property bought by the wife of back-from-thedead canoeist John Darwin has finally been sold to help recoup more than £500,000 defrauded from insurance and pension companies.
