POLICE are investigating an apparent suicide pact after two young men were found hanged in woodland.

Officers said they were not looking for anyone else in connection with the deaths of the 19 and 20-year-old.

An elderly dog walker made the grim find at about 9.15am yesterday morning in dense woods in Cramlington, Northumberland.

One of the men was named locally as Christopher Harrington, who lived with his family in Delamere Crescent, Cramlington.

A tearful neighbour said: ‘‘He was a very quiet lad from a nice family.”

The other dead man’s family was believed to be away on holiday.

Locals said the elderly man who found them needed hospital treatment for shock.

Northumbria Police said they were found near Brockwell Medical Centre in Northumbrian Road.

A police spokesman would not say whether a suicide pact was part of the investigation.

Police confirmed the men were dead at the scene and neither was taken to hospital.

Another dog walker, John Ferguson, 53, said he saw two youths heading into the woods early this morning.

‘‘I was walking here at 6.20am when I saw two of them cross into the trees,’’ he said.

‘‘I could hear them shouting but I was too far away to make out what they were saying. They seemed in high spirits, happy. One had fairish hair with a hoodie on.’’
