A SCHOOLBOY who was diagnosed with cancer on his ninth birthday has designed a winning poster for a fundraising Christmas musical event.

Now aged 11, Jack Nugent, from Consett, in County Durham is still undergoing treatment, but has been able to go back to school.

He and his family have been supported over the last two years by charity CLIC Sargent.

A poster designed by Jack will be printed on the programme of the 34th annual Christmas Carol Concert and Musical Jamboree, at the Sage, Gateshead, on Sunday.

His mother Katharine, said: “The charity is like a person holding you up and steering you on the right course.

“We were all over the place and we didn’t know what obstacles were ahead. Our CLIC Sargent social worker knew what was coming even if we didn’t. They were fantastic.

“I’m very proud of Jack for his positivity after everything he’s been through. This was a great win for him and I am sure the event will be fantastic.”

Sam Dixon, from Hartlepool, was also a winner in the competition.
