A PUBLIC relations boss owed thousands of pounds by a charity fundraiser dubbed ‘the Angel of North’ said last night that she was prepared to accept the figure raised by well-wishers – even though it falls hundreds of pounds short.

A campaign to clear the PR debt of kind-hearted beautician Katie Cutler and save her from the bailiffs was launched after she went public with details of the bill from Claire Barber.

Last year, Miss Cutler she won the nation’s hearts by raising £330,000 for disabled pensioner Alan Barnes after he was robbed.

She subsequently set up a charitable foundation and Ms Barber claims she was hired to raise Miss Cutler’s profile at a cost of £550 a day.

The deadline for payment of a £6,687 invoice following a county court judgement issued last month passed on Tuesday without a penny changing hands between the two parties.

The 23-year-old was told she faces having her possessions seized and auctioned off.

It is now understood she hopes the small claims court judgement will be set aside.

She has put the matter in the hands of a solicitor and said she has been advised to say no more on the matter publicly.

However by last night, two campaigns to help the mother-of-one, from Greenside, Gateshead, had raised £6,310, leaving her £377 short.

And Ms Barber, who is based in Northumberland, said: “After a year-and-a-half of waiting I would be more than happy to accept that figure. "

The PR guru, who once tweeted that Miss Cutler deserved an award for her work and described her as "simply incredible", fell out with the fundraiser over charges for her services.

And she took the matter to the small claims court arguing she was unable to carry the £6,687 debt.

She said: “I am a hard-working single mum trying to run a small business.

“A full breakdown was provided to Miss Cutler's business adviser last year. I wish I could afford to write it off but I cannot.

“I just want this to end now so I can get on with looking after my daughter and running daughters and running my business.”

Miss Cutler hit the headlines after setting up an online fundraising campaign for Gateshead mugging victim Alan Barnes.

The 4ft 6in pensioner was attacked in the street by drug addict Richard Gatiss, who was subsequently jailed for four years.

The case of 67-year-old Mr Barnes, who was born with severe disabilities after his mother contracted German measles during pregnancy, caught the public’s imagination early last year.

People from all over the world donated over £330,000, which he used to buy a new house.

But this week Alan Barnes himself has been subjected to vicious online abuse after saying the money was raised for him to use and he would not clear the PR debt.

A Just Giving page set up by Mr Barnes has yet to receive a single donation.

Miss Cutler, who has been awarded a British Empire Medal, tearfully appeared on ITV’s This Morning show recently to defend Mr Barnes.

She said: “Alan is a vulnerable adult. That money was raised for him, I didn't expect anything in return."

A Go Fund Me campaign set up by Ryan Walker, who describes himself as “a local lad from the North East” had raised more than £2,995, while a Just Giving page set up by Danielle Aikin, of Newcastle, has raised £3,315.
