CHARITY projects in The Northern Echo’s circulation area have the chance of being boosted by an annual grants scheme.

The Gannett Foundation, the charitable arm of the company behind the Newsquest Media Group, provides funding to support registered charity projects in areas where Newsquest operates.

The needs of rural communities is the chosen theme for 2016, but equal consideration will be given to all other applications that meet the scheme’s general criteria.

This includes practical and creative projects that bring lasting benefits to the communities and neighbourhoods served by Newsquest papers and websites.

These could be schemes for neighbourhood improvement and local problem-solving, economic development, youth development and environmental conservation, among others.

Applications must be submitted on the approved application form, which can be downloaded at www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/gannettfoundation.

The completed form and supporting document should be sent to tracey.dowson@nne.co.uk. Submissions on paper are not encouraged, but if unavoidable, they must be sent to Tracey Dowson, Newsquest (North East), PO Box 14, Priestgate, Darlington, DL1 1NF.

Applications must be received by 5pm on October 7, 2016.
