Clare Teal and her Trio Celebrate Doris Day, Theatre Royal, York on Saturday
Award winning Jazz and Big Band Singer and BBC Radio 2 presenter Clare Teal has always championed the music of the most beloved female singers of the 20th Century. In 2014 she turned her attention to one of the world’s greatest musical stars who was celebrating her 90th birthday, the iconic and much loved Doris Day. Clare’s tribute to Doris on BBC Radio 2’s Friday Night is Music Night, in honour of this milestone birthday, was a huge success. So it was decided that this was a show that really needed to be taken on tour. With her fabulous Trio, Clare has created a show that celebrates all of Doris’ professional life. The show is an entertaining, joyful journey through the musical life of one of the biggest legends of Hollywood. Songs include Secret Love, Move Over Darling, Perhaps Perhaps Perhaps, Deadwood Stage, It’s Magic, Ready Willing and Able, Everybody Loves A Lover, I’ll Never Stop Loving You and Que Sera Sera (What Will Be Will Be).

Martyn Joseph, The Witham, Barnard Castle on Saturday, 8pm
Martyn Joseph is a powerful singer and songwriter gifted with the rare ability to speak to the soul with his expressive and poignant lyrics. With a career spanning 30 years, 32 albums, over a half a million record sales and thousands of live performances, the versatility of his music touches genres of folk, rock, soul, folk funk and Americana, yet somehow all these labels cannot define the spirit of his music. Compared to Bruce Springsteen, John Mayer, Bruce Cockburn and Dave Matthews, he has created his own style and reputation as a mesmerising live performer and stands in his own right, built on a reputation for giving what thousands have described as the best live music experience of their lives. A unique talent driven by passion, social awareness and love for his trade, his music manages to empower and speak for the many. 01833-631107.
