NORTH-EAST social enterprises that have benefitted from loans from the Charity Bank will be throwing open their doors to the public this month (October).

Charity Bank, an ethical bank which uses its savers’ money to make loans solely to charities and social enterprises, is inviting people to visit organisations in Redcar and Darlington to see for themselves how their savings are being used for good.

EVA Women’s Aid in Redcar, which offers support to people affected by domestic and sexual abuse, and First Stop Darlington, a homeless charity, will open their doors to the public on October 20.

Tracy Freeman, First Stop Darlington chief executive, said: “When we wanted to buy a new property to reduce our outgoings, Charity Bank stepped in.

“We are now saving around £10,000 a year that we would have been spending on rent and other operating costs.

“We can now look forward to increasing the services we offer and helping more people in the future.”

The open days are taking place in support of national Good Money Week which runs from October 18 to 24.
