STAFF from housebuilder Taylor Wimpey, based in the North-East, helped contribute towards raising more than £150,000 for a charity which provides adventure camps and day activities for disadvantaged youngsters.

A four man team took part in the Peak District challenge, which involved trekking 28 kilometres uphill and down dale in the Peak District’s Hope Valley, as well as building a shelter out of recycled materials to sleep in.

In all 51 teams drawn from Taylor Wimpey staff all over the country took part in the event.

The money raised will go to the Youth Adventure Trust, which runs outdoor development courses for young people aged between 11 and 14 who come from difficult backgrounds.

The aim is to build children’s confidence and teach them team building skills through activities including caving, canoeing, climbing and archery.

Anthony Furey, production manager at Taylor Wimpey North East, one of those taking part, said: “It was tough, but the fantastic team spirit throughout the whole weekend kept us motivated. We were all exhausted by the end of the trek, but it was worth every footstep to raise such a fantastic amount of money for such a worthwhile cause.”

Mark Davey, chief executive of the Youth Adventure Trust, said: “This money will give many young people the chance to take part in our programme, fulfil their potential and lead positive lives in the future.”
