MORE than 100 pre-war and vintage cars will roar through the region as they take part in a three-day time trial.

The Flying Scotsman Rally takes in 750 miles of remote roads from Leeds to Gleneagles, taking in some of the UK’s most spectacular scenery.

Organised by the Endurance Rally Association, the event begins at Oulton Hall, in Leeds, tomorrow (Friday, April 17) and heads across the North Yorkshire Moors to Goathland and Whitby, before heading to Stokesley and Croft, near Darlington.

The 110 cars will then head to Consett before finishing in Newcastle.

On Saturday, the cars will travel between Newcastle and Edinburgh, before making their way from Edinburgh to Gleneagles on Sunday.

Fred Gallagher, vice president of the Endurance Rally Association, said: “Three days, nearly 750 miles in a pre-war car, what an adventure!

“This is a fantastic test for both car and driver on a route specially designed to showcase the stunning landscape and give brilliant rally conditions.

“All the crews who make it to the finish will be piped across the line, before relaxing at the gala prize giving dinner later that evening.”
