A TEENAGE girl who fell from cliffs near a holiday park remains in a critical but stable condition in hospital.

The 15-year-old holidaymaker from the Nottingham area fell up to 200ft from cliffs near the Blue Dolphin touring and camping park at Filey, North Yorkshire at 7pm on April 9.

Four coastguard rescue teams and a lifeboat went to the north of Chimney Hole near Filey to help rescue her and the coastguard’s new Rescue 912 helicopter was used in the operation.

She was taken to Hull Royal Infirmary with head injuries, where police say she remains in a critical but stable condition.

The cliffs at Filey have been the scene of other serious accidents - some of which have been fatal - in recent years. In 2005 a six-year-old girl survived a 150ft fall from the treacherous slopes.

In October 2003 a 16-year-old girl from Peterlee died after falling from the cliffs. She had been staying at the Blue Dolphin holiday centre, with her boyfriend and his parents when she fell from the cliffs at a spot known locally as Pudding Hole at Gristhorpe Cliffs.

At the time her grief-stricken father made an appeal for the cliff-tops to be made safer and fencing to be put up.

In 2009, coroner Michael Oakley also raised safety concerns after a 20-year-old from Ossett fell to his death after it is believed he slipped slipped off the edge of a public pathway after wandering away from his friends at the Blue Dolphin holiday park.
