A WOMAN who has raised more than £200,000 to support the region’s cancer units has held another successful fundraising event to purchase new equipment for local hospitals.

Tricia Greensmith, of Willington, near Crook, held the charity event last night (Thursday, January 22) at Chilton and Windlestone WMC.

Featuring live music from a wide range of professional singers who all volunteered to perform for free, the night raised hundreds of pounds.

“The support we get is unbelievable,” Mrs Greensmith said. “It wasn’t as busy as our previous events but I think that’s down to the time of year and that a lot of people aren’t very well.

“We still raised around £750 and that’s enough to buy some of the equipment we’ve been asked to fund.”

Mrs Greensmith, who has suffered with cancer herself, set up her own charity in 2007, The Chyrelle Addams Cancer Support Group.

The 53-year-old works as a professional singer, and Chyrelle Addams is her stage name.

Since then with the help of volunteers, Mrs Greensmith has raised around £205,000 which has paid for a variety of cancer treatment equipment.

“We have been approached by Darlington Memorial Hospital and Bishop Auckland Hospital to help fund four infusion pumps for the chemotherapy ward,” she added.

“After last night’s event we now have enough to pay for two of the pumps, which cost £5,000.”

Plans are already underway for the next charity event to continue fundraising and purchase two more pumps, for more information visit chyrelleaddams.co.uk.
