AN independent flooring retailer has donated £15,000 to charity after staff dressed up in Christmas jumpers.

Frank's the Flooring Store, which has 24 outlets around the North-East, held a festive fancy dress day on December 1 in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

Donations from customers, staff and suppliers raised £5,281, which was trebled by the company, making a total of £15,843 for the charity.

As well as wearing fancy dress, staff held cake sales to raise money.

Mick Copeland, business development manager at the retailer, said: “We are delighted with the total raised, which will benefit Macmillan Cancer Support and its fantastic work.

"It is an excellent charity, which does so much for people up and down the country, and we were more than happy to have supported Macmillan in this way.

“The initiative came about from a few of our staff members and the response for the day was remarkable, which has resulted in a greater donation than we first expected. It was great to see our staff and stores getting in the Christmas spirit for such a good cause.”
