CLEVELAND Fire Brigade is asking people to get in the Christmas spirit and record a festival favourite with a fire safety twist.

The force is inviting Teesside residents to put together their own version of the song The Twelve Days of Christmas, but with a fire safety theme and send in their videos singing it.

Winning entries will share £500 worth of prizes, including restaurant vouchers, cinema tickets, bowling tickets and more.

Phil Lancaster, director of community protection, said the competition is open to everyone including schools, families, youth groups and individual entries.

He added: “With the festive season creeping upon us all, and the plans for Christmas shopping, organising parties and having fun with family and friends is at the forefront of people’s minds, we wanted a fun way for people to remember how to ‘Stay Safe & Celebrate’ this year.”

Participants can find inspiration at clevelandfire.gov.uk/celebrate where they can see an interactive house which gives detailed safety tips and advice, as well as safety videos to view.

Mr Lancaster said: “We want people to have fun with this competition but at the same time we hope they will learn some valuable safety tips to help keep them and their families safe from fire.”

People can send in their entries by loading their videos to youtube and pasting the link into the entry form which can be found at www.clevelandfire.gov.uk/christmasvideo

The deadline for entries is Monday, December 15.
