A MAJOR search is underway following reports a man has fallen from the Tyne Bridge.
Emergency services were scrambled to the Quayside at 2.20pm today (Friday, October 17) after police were called.
It is understood the RAF helicopter, Marine Rescue, ambulances service, police, two helicopters and fire brigade are taking part in the search.
A spokesman for Northumbria Police said: “At 2.20pm this afternoon police were informed a man had climbed the Tyne Bridge, the man subsequently fell from the bridge into the river. “Emergency services are in the area and searches are being carried out to locate the man.”
