A MAN has appeared in court charged with the murder following the discovery of a body in a field. 

Daniel Robert Oxley, 22, appeared at Peterlee Magistrates’ Court accused of killing Michael Outhwaite.

The body Mr Outhwaite, 42, of Sunderland, was found at a field at Willington, near Crook, County Durham, on Friday morning.

Police have today released the first picture of Mr Outhwaite.

A post-mortem examination has revealed that he died of stab wounds.

Mr Oxley, originally of Murton, spoke only to confirm his name and age.

There was no application made for bail and Mr 0xley was remanded in custody to appear at Durham Crown Court at 10am on Monday, September 29.

An area around the town’s Cumberland Terrace was cordoned off following the discovery for forensic examination, and officers remained in the town all day conducting door-to-door inquiries.
