Two boys aged 15 and 17 have been arrested after a young girl was allegedly raped on a sports centre field.

Northumbria Police received a report at 8.05pm on Friday that a 14-year-old girl had been raped on the Kenton Park Sports Centre fields near Bradwell Road, Kenton, Newcastle.

Police attended and two youths, age 15 and 17, were arrested on suspicion of rape.

They have since been released on police bail.

The girl and the two teenagers were known to each other and police are appealing for witnesses.

Officers are keen to trace a man seen walking his dog in the area at the time of the offence who may have witnessed the incident.
