RAPPER Dizzee Rascal is to play the headline slot at this year’s Evolution Festival.
The North-East’s biggest annual music event will take place on the Diamond Jubilee Bank Holiday weekend with a line-up of chart topping stars.
Other big name acts include Rizzle Kicks, Noah and the Whale, Maximo Park and Deadmau5.
Evolution 2012, which takes place on June 3 and 4 on the Quayside, was launched yesterday at The Town Wall pub in Newcastle with a special performance by emerging local performer Lulu James, who will be part of the bill at he main event.
Evolution attracts nearly 30,000 people per day, delivering contemporary live acts and DJs.
This year has been dubbed “Return of the Rascal”, with Dizzee headlining the main stage on the Sunday.
Evolution promoter Jim Mawdsley said: “We are very proud to bring such a strong and progressive line-up to NewcastleGateshead for this year’s Evolution Festival.
“We look forward to partying with you all in June.”
At £25 for a day ticket or £35 for the weekend.
