A TEENAGER was arrested by police in the North-East yesterday for allegedly inciting violence with comments made on a social network site.

Northumbria Police arrested the 15-year-old male from the South Tyneside area in connection with an entry on Facebook in the wake of the recent riots.

A force statement said: "At 3:10pm on Saturday August 13, officers arrested the boy on suspicion of incitement to commit damage.

"The arrest came after officers monitored social networking sites having received intelligence."

A police spokesman said the boy is being held in custody, helping inquiries.

Police are warning anyone using social networking sites to generate disorder that they are being monitored by officers and action will be taken where appropriate.

It is the second recent arrest for this type of offence, after a 21-year-old woman, from the Hebburn area of South Tyneside, was arrested for inciting others to commit disorder.

She has been questioned and remains on police bail.
