Flying start for beauty contest

THE search to find the next Miss Sunderland has got off to a flying start.

Title-holder, Tamzin Cummings, from Ashbrooke, launched the contest yesterday, stepping out of a private jet at Newcastle International Airport, dressed as a Las Vegas showgirl.

The fashion student came fourth in Miss England and won the talent round.

Organisers have pledged to raise £20,000 for North-East charity Grace House Children’s Hospice.

Simon Robertson, of One Voice Productions, said it is not a contest where size zero rules.

He said: “We were delighted to have some plus size girls in the contest this year and our winner will have many duties involving the hospice.”

The final is at Rainton Meadows Arena, near Durham, on May 20 and will be hosted by TV presenters Philippa Tomson and Simon Robertson. To find out more, go to misssunderland.co.uk
