Football fans raid newsagents after Black Cats loss

FOOTBALL fans who went wild in the aisles at a corner shop were arrested - after their coach got stuck in a traffic jam.

Police were called when a bus-load of Manchester City fans ransacked a newsagents after their team was beaten 1-0 in Sunderland.

They descended on Southwick News in Sunderland and caused mayhem as they helped themselves to alcohol and magazines, before fleeing the store and making a getaway on their waiting bus.

Police were called to the scene, but all 36 supporters on the bus were arrested when the vehicle got stuck in traffic on nearby Wessington Way.

Four of the gang, all from the Stockport and Manchester areas were handed fixed penalty notices for theft.

One was cautioned for shoplifting and another for the possession of cocaine.

The remaining 30 were released without charge.

The raid came moments after Darren Bent scored for the Black Cats over City with an injury time penalty.
