Appeal to track down wanted man

2:50pm Monday 15th March 2010

POLICE are appealing for help in tracking down a convicted man who has been recalled to prison.

Richard James Sampson, 29, was convicted of grievous bodily harm with intent at York Crown Court in 2004 when he was sentenced to nine years’ imprisonment.

He was released from prison on licence in November last year - but it was revoked in February after he breached a curfew condition of the licence.

Detailed police enquiries to locate and arrest Sampson have been continuing since the licence was revoked but so far they have failed to trace him.

Sampson is 6ft tall, has short brown hair, with a long face, large nose and protruding ears. He usually wears a tracksuit and baseball cap.

He is not believed to pose a particular concern or danger to the public, but people are advised not approach him.

Anyone with information that could help locate Sampson is asked to contact North Yorkshire police on 0845 6060 247.

Information can also be passed on anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 111.
