Bookshop in running for national award

STAFF are keeping fingers crossed after a book shop was short-listed for a prestigious national award.

White Rose Books, Thirsk, is in the running for the Gardners Independent Bookseller of the Year -North and Scotland region award.

The winners are announced in the week starting April 12, with each regional winner going through to the short-list for the overall UK Independent Bookseller of the Year.

Sue Lake, shop owner, said: "To be nominated for another prestigious award is fantastic recognition of the hard work we all put in to running this business.

"We couldn't do it without all our fantastic customers."

The book shop was also awarded a national certificate of merit in the Parliamentary Shop of the Year 2010 competition after it was nominated by Anne McIntosh, the Vale of York MP.

She said: "I was delighted to nominate White Rose Books for this award as an independent small shop for its community involvement and it’s for the exceptionally high standards achieved with a willing staff prepared to go the extra mile."
