POLICE are urging parents to check they know what their children are doing after responding to incidents involving young people and weapons.

Middlesbrough Neighbourhood Policing Team say that in a 24-hour period they were called out to incidents in Berwick Hills, Pallister Park and Belle Vue which involving damage and assault.

In a post on Facebook on Wednesday night they wrote that they had arrested two people yesterday afternoon and a further three during the evening, all of whom were taken into custody.

The neighbourhood policing team say the incidents were so serious they drew on the support of police response units, the dog unit and the police helicopter for assistance.

The post stated: “Neighbourhood Officers have drawn on the support of colleagues in response, dogs and NPAS (helicopter) to assist with the incidents, which is a reflection on the serious nature of the incidents.

“I would appeal to parents to check on your kids and what they are doing – we have had groups of up to 30 youths – male and female – who are involved in the problems and the offences being committed are of a nature which can result in prison sentences.

“We need your help to keep your areas safe. We are happy to assist you if you want our staff to speak with your kids personally to highlight the risks they are taking.”
