A MAN has been arrested on drugs-related offences following a high-speed police chase.

Cleveland and Durham Roads Policing Unit was called at 1am this morning after a VW Golf failed to stop for local officers.

The unit found the vehicle and an 11 minute high speed police pursuit took place around Hartlepool and Seaton Carew.

The driver was caught when he drove down a dead-end street near to Hartlepool Marina.

Cleveland and Durham RPU wrote on their Facebook page: “The nightshift CDSOU were soon hot on the vehicles trail and an 11minute high speed pursuit around the quiet streets of Hartlepool and Seaton Carew ensued. The driver of the vehicle eventually ran out of luck when he drove down a dead end of a street near to the Marina.”

The driver was arrested for failing to stop for police, dangerous driving, possession of class B drugs and drug driving.

Earlier in the night the unit was involved in a second police pursuit when a stolen vehicle was seen in East Cleveland.

The car was spotted on the A174 towards Skelton at 9.30pm and after a short pursuit the driver and passenger were arrested for several offences, including burglary and “going equipped to steal”.
