A SCHOOL has confirmed it has been forced to close today as the cold weather continues to cause havoc across the North-East.

A spokesperson for North Shore Academy, in Stockton, confirmed on social media this morning that the school would be closed today due to flooding.

Writing on Twitter, they said: "School will be closed today due to flooding! Watch for further updates."

A spokesperson for Stockton Borough Council added: "North Shore Academy will be closed all day, Tuesday 12 December. This is due to a burst water pipe."

St Peter’s Catholic Voluntary Academy will be closed again for Years Seven and Eight today, but the parent’s evening for the same years planned for this evening will go ahead as normal.

A spokesperson for the school, on Normanby Road in South Bank, Middlesbrough, said: “Regretfully, the academy will have to remain closed for Years Seven and Eight today – this is due to ongoing heating issues in one area of the building following the insulation of a new boiler this summer.

“A leak in the boiler room was also uncovered and we are awaiting advice from contractors and the Diocesan Site Management team to rectify this issue as soon as possible.

“We will be endeavouring at all costs to get Years Seven and Eight back to their learning for Wednesday and will notify arrangements that have been made.

“Once again we apologise for the inconvenience caused by this closure.”

A spokesperson for Abingdon Primary School in Middlesbrough also confirmed part of the school would be closed today.

"Unfortunately the heating system in KS1 is broken. The following classes are closed today: Nursery 2, Rec, Year1 and Year2. Thank you."
