ONE of the leading voices of the 80s is set to perform in the region next year.

Lloyd Cole will bring singing tracks from his 1983-1996 anthology when he appears at Yarm’s Princess Alexandra Auditorium on Saturday, February 24.

He was the iconic frontman of Lloyd Cole & The Commotions, before continuing with his subsequent critically acclaimed solo work.

Fans can expect to hear hits including Perfect Skin, Rattlesnakes, Forest Fire, Lost Weekend, Brand New Friend, Jennifer She Said, Are You Ready to be Heartbroken and much more besides.

Graham Ramsay, of promoters Ten Feet Tall, said: “Lloyd Cole is one of my all-time favourite singers so I'm obviously dead chuffed to be able to announce this one.

“He's an artist who has always gone his own way, and has kept producing more and more great records, rather than just resting on his laurels.

“Having said that, this tour looks like it's going to be unashamedly nostalgic, and there's a place for that too. It looks like it's going to be an amazing set list, concentrating on the Commotions stuff, and the early solo records.

“Years ago we put Lloyd on at Middlesbrough Music Live, and I remember Bob Mortimer turned up and spent the whole set right at the front, gazing on wonder at a man who was obviously an idol."

Tickets, costing £22.50, go on sale at 10am on Wednesday from www.thepaaonline.org and the Princess Alexandra Auditorium box office on 01642-792587.
