HUNDREDS of people turned out for a fundraising event in memory of a four-year-old who died in a tragic accident a year ago.

Jessica Azadi, from Thornaby near Stockton, died in September 2016 when a fireplace that had been safely secured in her garden fell onto her, leaving her with catastrophic head injuries.

To mark the first anniversary of the little girl’s death, her family hosted a huge community fun day to celebrate her life and raise money for the Great North Air Ambulance and James Cook University Hospital, who battled to save her.

The fun day, held at Ingleby Barwick’s Whinstone Primary School, saw butterflies released into the sky, and those attending got the chance to meet Disney characters and enjoy live music, rides and a variety of games and activities.

Jessica's family said: "We want to remember Jessica and allow others to remember her in the way that she was – fun, loving, energetic and full of life.

“Jessica loved fun days and trips to the fair and we felt that this was a fitting tribute."
