TASTY treats from local producers will be the focus of an event returning to Middlesbrough next month.

The town’s fifth Local Food Weekend will see independent restaurants and food outlets offer diners a range of locally sourced dishes.

Between Friday, September 1 and Sunday, September 3, food offered at participating eateries will be grown or produced within 50 miles of Middlesbrough.

The event was organised as part of a campaign to improve access to local food and aims to support the local economy by increasing the use of food or drink produced locally.

Among the restaurants signed up this year are The Curing House, The Olde Young Tea House and Al Forno.

Organisers are now encouraging other restaurants and cafes to get involved.

Joe Dunne, of Growing Middlesbrough, said: “Local food is great for Teesside - it creates jobs, supports local businesses and keeps more money in the region."
