Luxury North-East hotel Wynyard Hall has added a new beauty salon to its range of stellar services, says Jenny Needham

IF you are heading to beautiful Wynyard Hall for some R&R this summer, there's even more choice now. Down at the lakeside spa, R stands for Relaxation. There's a herbal sauna, hot tubs and a conservatory where you can take refreshment and enjoy the lovely views. Now, up at the main house, the country house hotel has opened some new beauty rooms... and at The Salon on the first floor, R stands for Results.

Unlike the hotel’s lovely spa, winner of Best for Outside Space in the Good Spa Guide, The Salon doesn’t have lovely views. And unlike the Wynyard Hall itself, which has stunning architectural details and opulent furnishings, the beauty rooms are fairly spartan, consisting of a space containing two perspex nail bars and two simple, off-white treatment rooms.

And yet the surroundings suit the ethos of the new venture: simple results-focused treatments for a range of concerns from cellulite to wrinkles. “We have a range of anti-ageing, nourishing and corrective treatments to tackle all sorts of skin worries, from ageing to acne,” says beauty manager Natasha Paylor.

Natasha is a fan of CACI treatments, the original non-surgical, lunchtime facelift: actress Michelle Collins says she couldn't live without them and other celebrities, such as Emma Stone and Anthea Turner, have borne testament to their effectiveness. The treatments harness the rejuvenating power of LED light therapy and gentle microcurrents to stimulate skin regeneration and re-educate facial muscles. Non-surgical Facial Toning (from £60) lifts and tones, while Wrinkle Revolution (£30), targets crow’s feet and laughter lines, with instant results from the first treatment. Other treatments include Ultimate Skin Rejuvenation, Eye Revive, Body Sculpting and Orbital Microdermabrasion.

In addition, Wynyard is the only venue in the region offering Natura Bissé treatments. Cited by superstar Beyoncé as one of her beauty essentials, the Spanish brand known for its effective anti-ageing and restorative properties also counts singers Miley Cyrus and Kelly Rowland amongst its impressive list of celebrity customers.

Clients at Wynyard can enjoy a nourishing range of Natura Bissé facials, massages and full-body treatments. The Sweet Dreams massage (£65) works to reduce anxiety and insomnia, aiding restorative sleep and reducing tension, while the 3D Collagen Shock facial (from £90) reinforces skin structure to sculpt and redefine facial contours, reducing fine lines and wrinkles.

This is the mother of all facials. Known as the catwalk or red carpet facial, as it’s popular with celebrities before they head off to A-list events such as the Oscars, the treatment harnesses the power of three different types of collagen to work on different layers of the skin.

Lasting 60 or 90 minutes, it starts with a deep cleansing massage followed by exfoliation with glycolic acid and other alpha hydroxy acids, so the serums can penetrate deep down into the dermis. A cocktail of goodies is built up layer after layer, including a revitalising mask with pineapple and green tea extracts, before the face is covered with a silicon mask with a powerful sealing effect – not a good look, but if it get results...

The overall aim is to create a tightening film that holds moisture on the surface, improves water retention, prevents dryness and stimulates the synthesis of new collagen. The treatment also includes a special massage to redefine and sculpt your facial contours, as well as aiding lymphatic drainage.

There’s a lot to take in, but the end result is skin that’s supple and plump. The texture of my skin was much improved and I was impressed by how much some of my deeper facial lines had softened, and how long the dewy look lasted. It would be a great choice if you have any special events coming up this summer – with red carpet, or without. Enjoying all this surrounded by the splendour of Wynyard Hall, just makes you feel even more like a celebrity.

The Salon is open Tuesdays - Saturdays, 10am-6pm. T: 01740-644811 (option 4).
