YOUNG volunteers are being sought to support this year’s Summer Reading Challenge across the Stockton area.

The Borough Council’s Libraries Service is looking for 16 to 24-year-olds who are able to volunteer for a minimum of ten hours over the summer holidays.

The challenge, which is aimed at children aged four to 11, is to read six library books during the summer holidays.

Reuben Kench, the council’s director of culture, leisure and events, said: “This is a great opportunity for young volunteers to help our friendly libraries staff run the Summer Reading Challenge.

“Volunteers will talk to children about the books they’ve been reading, help them to choose new books, and deliver fun activities and craft sessions. They will also gain valuable work experience and a reference for employment.”

The deadline for applications is tomorrow and packs are available from Lucy Carlton-Walker, on 01642-528501 or email lucy.carlton-walker@stockton.gov.uk
