A SOCIAL history exhibition is set to go on show again after a successful stint at Preston Hall Museum.

Victory’s Children follows the lives of a group of young Thornaby residents who were photographed at a 1945 Victory party.

The story capturing the town’s post-war Britain began four years ago when documentary film producer Derek Smith was given the photo of a VE Day children’s party.

The image was taken outside the house where he was born on Barnard Street.

And the story of the people in the pictures is set to feature in the town’s library next month.

He said: “Sadly three of our original children have passed away since this project began so Victory’s Children is emerging as a valuable piece of social history. I’m hoping that the Library exhibition will generate more photos and stories on the street for our on going story.

“Two years have passed since the Preston Hall showing , and I know there are many Thornaby people who are still keen to see the exhibition. I’m delighted that the Library are able to present it.”

The exhibition runs for a week at Thornaby Central Library until June 8.

Mr Smith will be presenting his documentary “Victory’s Children” about the Barnard Street children on Thursday, June 1 at 7.30pm in the Library.
