A LITTLE girl with big dreams has taken her first steps towards a Gold-en showbiz career with the help of popstar and actor, Martin Kemp.

The bassist from iconic ‘80s band Spandau Ballet gave ten-year-old schoolgirl Beth Ward the opportunity of a lifetime to turn her holiday footage into movie magic.

Wannabe director Beth created a short film of her family trip to Mexico and returned home to Ingleby Barwick where she penned a handwritten letter to travel company, First Choice.

Beth wrote: “I really want to be a filmmaker.

“So my mam helped me make a small movie on my laptop to share with everyone.

“I hope you enjoy watching it as much as I enjoyed making it.”

The Barley Fields Primary School pupil received a direct response from Nick Longman, managing director of First Choice’s parent company, TUI UK and Ireland, inviting Beth to London to edit her film in a state-of-the art studio.

Producer and TV judge, Mr Kemp, stepped in to deliver a movie-making masterclass for Beth and made the journey to her school yesterday to showcase the final cut during a surprise assembly.

Talented ten-year-old Beth said: “I’m a massive film fan and spend lots of time trying to make movies on my laptop.

“I decided to make a film of our holiday in Mexico, with help from my family, and thought it was good so I sent it to First Choice to see what they thought, too.

“I couldn’t believe it when they arranged for me to meet Martin Kemp.

“He’s awesome on TV and I’m still so excited I got the opportunity to work with him on my movie.”

The premiere of “Beth in Mexico” impressed schoolmates and staff at Barley Fields Primary with the short film now set to be screened in Vue Cinemas across the country.

Mr Kemp said: “We live in an age when kids can take their talents in any direction. Whether it’s a pop star, scientist, a doctor or a YouTube sensation – opportunities are there for anyone with the enthusiasm and commitment to go that extra mile.

“When First Choice contacted me with Beth’s letter and holiday video, I was impressed by her personality and passion.

“She’s only ten-years-old, but really brought her holiday experience to life which takes huge imagination.”

He added: “It’s been an honour to help nurture her talent and I can’t wait to see where she goes next with her filmmaking skills.”
