THE finishing touches have been applied to the Stockton Sparkles Christmas Market ahead of its opening today (Thursday 24).

Shoppers will be able to pick up a festive treat from a variety of independent sellers who have set up stall in specially created cabins on the High Street.

As well as handmade fudge, artisan chocolate, woodland creations, jewellery, Christmas wreaths and mulled wine, people will be able to enjoy street theatre, children’s activities and a live music programme.

Younger visitors can send their letters and lists to Santa using a special post office staffed by Elves keen to help children write their letters in plenty of time for Christmas.

Councillor Norma Wilburn, Stockton Borough Council’s cabinet member for arts, leisure and culture, said: “The market is ideal for families looking for gifts, tasty food or simply to enjoy the extra special atmosphere.

“The log cabin village is right in the centre of the High Street amongst this year’s larger than life decorations and with street theatre and other entertainment taking place from Thursday right through to Christmas”

The Christmas Market will be open today between 9am and 7.30pm, 9am-6pm on Friday and Saturday; and 10am-4pm on Sunday.
