KEEN knitters from across the Stockton district are doing their bit to help support people living with dementia.
Now Stockton Borough Council is calling on more knitting groups and individual enthusiasts to help other Alzheimer sufferers to create woollen hand-muffs known as twiddlemuffs.
Stockton council’s cabinet member for Adult Services and Health, Cllr Jim Beall, said: “It’s heartening to see so many people already helping to make these wonderfully simple yet highly effective knitted aids. People living with dementia often have restless hands so these Twiddlemuffs are a really good idea as they keep their hands busy.”
Packs about how to create the hand-muffs and help dementia sufferers have been produced by the Alzheimer’s Society and can be purchased from All About Wool in Stockton Town Centre. Priced at £5, £2 goes direct to the Alzheimer’s Society.
The project is running until Monday, December 19. All completed twiddlemuffs will be donated to local care homes and hospitals. Visit stockton.gov.uk/twiddlemuffs or call 01642-527363.
