AN inquest into the death of a four-year-old girl who died following an accident at home has been opened.

Jessica Azadi, four, of Thornaby, died at James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough on September 9, after an accident at her home on Woodford Walk.

An inquest into her death was opened at Teesside Magistrates’ Court today (Monday, September 19) and her body will now be released to the family.

Assistant coroner Jo Wharton adjourned the hearing to a future date to allow for further inquiries to be carried out.

Jessica’s death left her parents Ben and Natasha and the rest of Thornaby devastated. On Saturday people from across the town got together to release balloons at Harold Wilson field to show solidarity with the family.

About £4,400 has now been raised by well wishers to support the family on the GoFundMe and JustGiving fundraising sites. Donate at either justgiving.com/crowdfunding/Jessicaazadi or gofundme.com/25z8fyj4 .

Jessica's funeral will be held at St Mark’s Church in Thornaby from 1pm on Thursday, September 22, with mourners asked to wear bright colours.

Police have made clear there were no suspicious circumstances to Jessica's death.
