ORGANISERS are putting the finishing touches to the programme for this year’s Festival of Thrift, which takes place in Redcar.

The festival, at Kirkleatham Museum and grounds on September 17 and 18, has a packed schedule of activities, featuring everything from art installations and street theatre to debates, talks and workshops.

Festival goers can try something new, from food to fixing things.

The Festival’s director, Stella Hall, said: “There are over 140 things to see and do at the event including the opportunity for visitors to make, learn and go away with something new to pass on – skills, knowledge, or thrifty purchases.”

Some of the highlights at the festival include an “OxGlam” catwalk show, with thrifty fashion on show, and also a “Fix it Cafe” where experts and a range of equipment will be on hand to help people fix their broken items, from electronic items such as computers and mobile phones, to faulty fishing rods.

A DJukebox, an interactive jukebox with a live DJ inside, enables people to choose from one of over 60 classic tracks to join the DJ and spin their record, in a box transformed from a portable site toilet.

There will also be a super-sized team version of the classic naval guessing game Battleships, using binoculars, with flags and flashcards signalling hits and misses hundreds of yards apart. ew work by five emerging Teesside artists, made all from recycled materials, will on on show in the stables of Kirkleatham Hall.

The festival is free but workshops are on offer from £4.50. Book at www.festivalofthrift.co.uk or visit the information desk at the festival.
