PEOPLE in a picturesque, historic town are being asked to take part in a major oral history project.

It has been initiated in Yarm by Newcastle Building Society in the run-up to the opening of a new branch inside Yarm Library, which is being refurbished.

Staff at the Society want to interview people of all ages about what it was like growing up and living in the town in the past and what it’s like today.

The partnership between Newcastle Building Society and Stockton Borough Council to introduce a branch into the library is the first of its kind in the UK. The library will re-open in September.

Kathryn Mclaughlin, Head of Corporate Communications at Newcastle Building Society, said: “We’re looking for people of all ages to share their experiences, memories and feelings so we can build a picture of how the the town has developed.”

The interviews will take place through the day on Thursday, August 25 in Yarm. Email Yarm@newcastle.co.uk or call 0191 244 2735.
