BRITAIN’S second-ranked female weightlifter is appealing for public help to help her represent her country.

Kelly-Jo Robson, 27, from Stockton, came second in the British female weight lifting championships recently by lifting 59 kilos in the quick ‘snatch’ weight-lifting event and 73 kilos in the more controlled and slower ‘clean and jerk’ event.

But she needs to raise £2,000 funding in order to pay for training and access lottery funding in order or compete for Britain in the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

Ms Robson, originally from Brotton in east Cleveland, has already raised £1,000 but has just six days left to raise another £1,000.

The personal trainer, who lives with partner Daniel Robinson, explained the money would pay for her travel costs for specialised training with a professional instructor Dave Sawyer in Derbyshire.

Other money would pay for her to have ‘blocks’ to help her with the controlled weight-lifting which will prevent her getting too many injuries.

At just 4ft 11ins, Ms Robson has opportunity of making a lighter weight-lifting class which means she has less competition than heavier women. Women competing in her category weigh less than 7stone 5lbs.

She said: “My mum came to the first competition and she’s really into it. I want to represent my country.”
