A STREET theatre group is set to give shoppers a silent taster of what is to come when Stockton International Riverside Festival (SIRF) kicks off next month.

The one-man show, Syrovy, from arts organisation Artizani, will be performing at Thornaby's Pavillion Shopping Centre at the weekend.

The unique performance is a comic routine, which explores a man’s conflicting relationship with everyday objects including clothes, cutlery, chairs and the newspaper.

Oliver Westley, centre manager, said: “Syrovy is a truly unique and entertaining street theatre show and I am sure all of our shoppers will have a brilliant time watching the performance at Pavilion.”

The performance takes place between noon and 3pm on Saturday (July 30).

Cllr Norma Wilburn, Stockton Borough Council’s cabinet member for arts, leisure and culture, said: “We want to encourage residents from all over the borough to experience the magic of SIRF and that is why we are bringing this ‘taster’ performance to Thornaby Town Centre. Syrovy, a spectacular show inspired by silent-movie clowning, acrobatics and slackrope walking is guaranteed to give people a flavour of what is going to be on offer."

The four day festival in Stockton town centre runs from Thursday, August 4 to Sunday, 7 August.
