THERE is still time for community groups to get involved with one of the region's biggest carnivals.

The Stockton International Riverside Festival (SIRF) Community Carnival will take place on Saturday, August 6 and a free costume making workshop will be held on Saturday (July 23) for families who want to take part.

An artist will be on hand between 10am to 12pm and 1pm to 3pm at Our Lady & St Bede Catholic Academy on Bishopton Road West.

There will be a chance to create head dresses and costume accessories to wear during the carnival and this year's theme is Mythical Lands and Fantastical Creatures.

Stockton Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Arts, Leisure and Culture, Councillor Norma Wilburn said: “Our Community Carnival is quite something. It is the largest in the Tees Valley and is always a spectacular sight. It’s great that so many people come together every year to be part of it. There are plenty of opportunities to get involved and making the costumes in the run up is great fun too.”
