A COLLEGE boss showed he was all heart after spending time volunteering in his local charity shop.

Stockton Riverside College's deputy principal Mick Hickey spent the afternoon sorting stock and greeting customers at the British Heart Foundation's (BHF) shop on Stockton High Street.

Having worked as a butcher's boy as a teenager and spending his early career working in shops, he said: "I'm not new to retail but it's been 30-odd years since I've worked in that environment so I was looking forward to having a go and seeing how things have changed."

Mr Hickey’s return to the shop floor came in the run-up to BHF's Wear It Beat It day on Friday (5th February), a national campaign to wear red and to raise funds for the charity’s lifesaving work.

Stockton Riverside College is taking part in activities to celebrate the day and help raise awareness.
