POLICE are warning of fraudulent door to door salesmen targeting elderly people in the Yarm and Eaglescliffe areas.
The salesmen allege that they are reformed young offenders and are selling cleaning goods.
Most of the incidents are carried out in the evening and in some cases the suspects become increasing persistent and intimidating, forcing some victims to pay to make them leave.
Officers advise that in order to sell door to door, the person should have a current pedlars certificate and identification.
If the person cannot produce these documents then be vigilant about buying anything from them.
Anyone who thinks that they have been a victim or anyone with information regarding these incidents is asked to contact Cleveland Police on the non-emergency number 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or www.crimestoppers-uk.org.
