AN arts venue has teamed up with an autism charity to enable families to get the most from their experience.

Three of Arc's upcoming events will have a 'relaxed performance' to enable children with autism and other needs to enjoy shows with minor adjustments to the venue including consistent lighting throughout, extra seats and spacing between other families.

Other improvements include music at a reduced volume, and the opportunity for children and parents to bring their own food, as well as beat the queues.

As part of this process, ARC will be consulting with parent groups to find out which changes they would most like to see.

Judith Haysmore, chief executive at Daisy Chain said: "We are delighted to be working in partnership with the ARC to provide relaxed film screenings and performances for people with autism and additional needs.

"This will provide opportunities for people with sensory sensitivity to enjoy a trip to the cinema or to watch a show with their families, friends or carers.

"Our families at Daisy Chain are looking forward to attending these relaxed screenings and spending time together as a family in a comfortable environment.”

The relaxed performances will be Snoopy and Charlie Brown: The Peanuts Movie on Monday, February 15 at1.30pm, Horace and the Yeti on Friday, February 19 at 11am and the classic children’s story, Tom Thumb, on Saturday, April 23 at 2.30pm.
