HUNDREDS of schoolchildren from across 17 primary schools in Stockton have been invited to a police event to promote safety.

The event will be hosted at Harrowgate Primary School, Hardwick, in Stockton, from today (Monday, November 30) to Friday (December 4) and Cleveland Police officers will talk to the pupils about their job roles and what they can do to help children and communities in the local area.

The force will discuss the legal age of criminal responsibility, what crime is and how crime affects the community amongst other crime related topics.

Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) Ryan Davey has organised the event along with the help of Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) Liz Lutz, Paul Webster, Helen Pendlington and Gary Liddell.

PCSO Ryan Davey said: β€œIt is important to inform children about how to stay safe, and what we all do to help protect people in our local area. It is a fun way to get everyone together to learn and interact with each other for the benefit of our community.”

Multiple agencies are also involved, including the Ambulance Service, Cleveland Fire Brigade, local authority enforcement officers, Hardwick Youth Project (HYPE), Thirteen Group, Hardwick Residents Association and North Star Housing.

Each of the pupils will be given a wide variety of information and a safety competition will be held for them to win prizes.
