A RECORD £25,000 was raised by a Bollywood themed ball supporting Butterwick Hospice Care in Stockton and Bishop Auckland.

The ball, attended by 270 people and held at Hardwick Hall Hotel near Sedgefield, featured a surprise appearance by former Coronation Street actress and Hear’say singer, Kim Marsh, who gave her time free to help raise the cash.

It also showcased a team of Bollywood dancers.

Butterwick fundraising manager, Clair McGregor, who lead the organising team, said: "It all came together on the night and was a wonderful event, which everyone seemed to enjoy."

Butterwick Chief Executive, Graham Leggatt-Chidgey, said he was delighted with the result.

"To raise £25,000 at one event is a tremendous achievement and a record amount for a Butterwick ball. We received wonderful support from a good many local individuals and organisations, and Kim Marsh, who has supported us in the past, was a great hit."

Butterwick Hospice Care has two adult facilities at Stockton and Bishop Auckland, children’s and transitional units at Stockton and also provides outreach care throughout Teesside and South Durham.
